Collection: Cave & Hooded Dog Beds

A cave or hooded dog bed suits dogs that curl up tight or like to burrow under blankets, such as Dachshunds, Chihuahuas and Miniature Pinschers. The covered top holds in warmth on cold nights. Our cave beds come in sizes S to XL for small dogs, in plush, corduroy and novelty shark designs, with prices from £19.

Choosing Cave & Hooded Dog Beds

Who a cave bed suits

Dogs that dig at their blankets, sleep under the duvet or squeeze behind cushions are looking for a den. A covered bed gives them that feeling without the duvet. Short coated and small breeds that feel the cold, and dogs that like a quiet hideaway in a busy home, often settle quickly in a hooded bed.

Choosing the right size

Measure your dog curled up in its usual sleeping position and choose a bed with an inside base at least that wide. Your dog should be able to turn round inside and lie down without pressing against the roof. If your dog is between sizes, choose the larger bed. Check the size chart on each product page, as sizes differ between designs.

Snap down front or fixed hood

Our corduroy cave bed has a front that snaps down to close or folds back to open, so your dog can sleep covered on cold nights and uncovered when it is warmer. Long plush hooded beds keep a soft fixed hood. The shark bed has an open mouth entrance that dogs walk straight into. For a festive version, see the Christmas tree beds in our Christmas Gifts for Dogs range.

Keeping it clean

Shake or vacuum loose hair out of the bed each week. Check the care section on each product page before washing, as some covers are machine washable and others are best washed by hand. Let the bed dry fully before your dog uses it again. For more styles, browse all our dog beds.

Frequently asked questions

What is a cave dog bed?

A cave dog bed is a bed with a covered top or hood that forms a small den. Dogs climb inside and curl up under the cover. It suits dogs that like to burrow, dogs that feel the cold and dogs that like a quiet, enclosed spot to sleep.

Are cave beds good for Dachshunds?

Dachshunds are a burrowing breed and often like to sleep under covers, so many settle well in a cave bed. Choose a size that lets your Dachshund turn round and stretch a little inside. Our S and M cave beds suit most Miniature and Standard Dachshunds; check the inside measurements on each product page.

Will my dog get too hot in a hooded bed?

Some dogs do get warm in a fully covered bed, especially in summer or in a heated room. A cave bed with a front that opens lets your dog sleep uncovered when it is warmer. If your dog keeps lying half out of the bed, it may simply prefer an open bed such as a donut or bolster bed.

What size cave bed do I need?

Measure your dog curled up and choose a bed whose inside base is at least that wide. Your dog should be able to stand, turn round and lie down inside without pushing against the roof. If you are unsure, choose the larger size.

Can a cat use a cave dog bed?

Yes. Small cave beds, including our Christmas tree beds, suit cats as well as small dogs, and many cats like the enclosed space.
